This fixture was specially designed for a European manufacturer of floor coverings solutions to the automotive industry to meet the requirements of ASTM D 1335:1998 Standard Test Method for Tuft Bind of Pile Yarn Floor Coverings (Cut Pile and Loop Pile Tuft Bind Testing). This standard covers the measurement of tuft bind ie the force required to pull a cut pile or loop pile tuft completely out of a pile yarn floor covering specimen.
The tuft bind fixture is a multi-purpose grip consisting of a cylindrical metal sample holder mounted in a U-shaped bracket, upper crossbar, forceps for use with cut pile and a hook arrangement for use with loop pile.
