Adhesion Test Jig for Torque Testing of Super-Glued Nuts and Bolts

SuperGlue
Adhesion Test Jig for Torque Testing of Super-Glued Nuts and Bolts

A steel jig for testing the torque of super-glued nuts and bolts.

The glued nut/bolt assembly is clamped into position whilst a lever arm is driven down, applying torque force to the nut. Failure in the adhesive is indicated when the nut moves on the bolt thread (drop in force in the Lloyd Instruments NEXYGENPlus software).

The jig comprises a swivel plate, which can be moved to allow the sample bolt head to be inserted into a slide block. The sample is secured into position by an adjusting screw. A spanner lever, 150 mm (5.9 in) in length and 12.7 mm (0.5 in) wide, is located into the assembly at an angle of approx 45°. The nut is engaged into a special socket mechanism permitting extreme ease of use. The slide block is locked into position using a thumbscrew located under the base plate. A dome-ended probe fitted to the crosshead of the test machine is then driven down onto the lever to apply force to the super-glued bolt assembly, causing the adhesive bond to break.
