Soft Tissue Fixation Strength for Metallic Bone Staples
This test involves the testing of soft tissue fixation strength of metallic staples used in the internal fixation of the musculoskeletal system. Soft tissue or a synthetic substitute is fixed to bone using single or multiple bone staples. Tension is applied axially until the staple leg ruptures or tearing of the soft tissue occurs, or the staple purchase in the bone is disrupted. The test is conducted in either an ambient condition or in aqueous or physiological solutions at either room temperature or 37ºC.
