Lloyd Instruments will be showing the Davenport™ MFI-10 Melt Flow Indexer equipped with an auto flow rate timer. The MFI-10 is used to determine the melt flow properties of a polymer and is used extensively in production and quality control to ensure batch-to-batch consistency. It is renowned for accuracy, repeatability, and reproducibility of results.  Independent tests have shown that the MFI-10 gives results with less than 1% variance for standard polymers having melt flow index in the range 2 - 20 g/10 mins.

The MFI-10 determines the melt flow properties of a polymer to BS2782 Part 7: Method 720A, ISO 1133 and ASTM D 1238 Methods A and B by extruding it in a molten state through a calibrated die using a reference weight. It is an intelligent, modular system, which offers flexibility of testing and increased automation, especially when used under PC control with NEXYGEN Davenport software.

The main base unit can be configured for either manual or fully automatic testing. For ease of use, the backlit LCD gives written instructions at each step with audible prompts at the correct time and results calculated and displayed at the end of the test. Busy laboratories can save time and improve health and safety by automating the whole process with the addition of the optional displacement transducer and weight loading device.

The MFI-10 features a dual test mode, which allows the melt density of the particular material under test to be calculated rather than relying on published data for generic materials. An accurate value for this (at the test temperature) is required for use in ASTM Method B.
